Water Fun
Leonbergers really enjoy the water. and we have found that, with a little basic training they have no trouble doing at least the Beginner and Junior levels of the Water Training Exercises.
Ben has passed both the beginner and Junior exercises and we are working on the Senior ones. This is a bit more difficult than the previous levels, but we are sure he can do it. His love of doing the work is a big help.
Teal and Whisper have qualified to do the Junior exercises and we are beginning with those.
Troll is learning the Beginner work. He loves being in the water so much it is difficult to persuade him to come out.
Jack, Carla and Annie are beginning the basic 'on land' training at home.
Beginners Test Check here to give you an idea of what is required to begin
Junior Test This is the second level and a little more difficult, but builds on the first level and is well within any Leonbergers capabilities.
Senior Test This is the highest level, and is a bit more complex. However it is great fun, and certainly attainable. The Leonberger Club holds regular Water tests. Check their website for details. The Club is also running a series of articles in their quarterly Newsletter that may help with the training.
Reading material: A good book to help get you from start to finish is "Water Work, Water Play' by Judi Adler. This is written for Newfoundlands, but is just as relevant for the Leonberger.
